Two-Family Retreat
My family enjoys traveling and camping with our close friends. Our friends have children of a similar age who have known each other since birth. We consider them family, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
I once had the idea to create a cabin getaway where two separate families could share a common kitchen and dining space while also having separate private areas. Each “unit” would have its own private entrance, private bathroom, storage, fireplace, and sleeping areas. Additionally, if only one family occupied the cabin, a sliding barn door could be closed to separate the unoccupied space – or – if we wanted to put the kids on one side and adults on the other, that’s an option as well.
As you can see, the design is very minimal. Simple brick construction with shed roofs. Although the amount of glazing shown would be a nice way to connect with the surroundings, budget concerns would likely kill it.
As usual, the model was developed in Revit, and the renderings were produced in Octane.
